Thighs, Hips or Buttocks?
What is Cellulite? Cellulite is often compared to an orange peel, because it consists of 'dimpled' skin caused by raised fat cells under the skin. The most common areas affected by cellulite are the hips, buttocks, thigh, lower stomach and arms. About 90% of women suffer from some degree of cellulite, ranging from just noticeable to severe. Cellulite is not tied to obesity; it occurs in women of all body types, whether they are slim, normal or large. Cellulite is caused by a combination of poor connective tissue, a build up of toxic waste and fluids in the subcutaneous tissues.
Cellulite: is a colloquial term for deposits of subcutaneous fat and fibrous tissue that cause a dimpling effect on the overlying skin. These deposits most commonly occur on the thighs and hips of women. Though diet and exercise can help reduce cellulite, a large part of cellulite is comprised of toxins and fat that accrue within the body. Cellulite can affect men and women of any body weight or size.
Do you have cellulite?
I’m sure you know what cellulite looks like, but do you know
what it actually is and how it’s formed? Cellulite is typically located on the hips,
thighs, and buttocks.
Cellulite What Causes It...
The primary cause of cellulite is the impaired elimination of waste and poor circulation. Insufficient water intake, poor nutrition, constipation, sedentary living and stress all contribute to enlarged fat cells. These factors result in poor lymphatic drainage of the tissues, coupled with a breakdown of collagen and elastin fibers in the dermis that no longer hold the tissue tightly.Poor lymphatic drainage means that the lymph cannot flow through the lymph nodes, which are one directional, and stays trapped in the tissue. In the upper thighs, this stagnation, combined with gravity, makes re-flow of lymph difficult from the legs up through the lymph nodes in the groin (the lymph’s only routes of escape back to the body). Inefficient exchange of lymphatic fluid and blood causes the lymph to become stagnant and appear swollen (i.e. cellulite).
